About St. Anthony`s Major Seminary

Peace Be With You!
Welcome to the St. Anthony’s Major Seminary, Kachebere website! I hope you will find our website interesting and useful.
It’s a great honor to have been asked to serve again as Kachebere’s 24th Rector. St. Anthony’s Major Seminary, Kachebere is the oldest Catholic seminary in Malawi, where more priests have been trained for service in Malawi, Zambia, Kenya and Mozambique. The seminary was opened in October 1939 under the sponsorship of the Missionaries of Africa. It served as a regional seminary for both Zambia and Malawi. In 1969 the seminary was handed over to the Episcopal Conference of Malawi. In 2018 the ECM invited Sulpician Fathers to operate the Seminary together with Malawian priests to the present date. The Sulpician Fathers are a community of diocesan priests dedicated to the formation of priests founded by Fr Jean-Jacques Olier in 1641 in France.
Kachebere Major Seminary has always dedicated itself to training priests attuned to the needs and the sensibilities of Malawian Catholics. St. Anthony’s Major Seminary, Kachebere can therefore justly be called Malawi’s “ nursery of many priests.” This major Seminary, is not only the nation’s premier seminary, it also has boasted since 2015 as a constituent college of Catholic University of Malawi specialising in the philosophical training of priests. It boasts of being the first seminary to offer Bachelors in Philosophy in Malawi in 2015.
Those seeking philosophical, social and pastoral education are men who have experienced the Lord’s calling after discerning their vocation in the propedeutic seminary. The need for peace which comes through a mature personal reflection and examination of life is deeply felt in the seminarians today. Kachebere endeavaours to offer that atmosphere at the bottom of the scenic Kalulu hill.mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
