The workshop conducted by the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Malawi at St. Anthony’s Major Seminary-Kachebere from October 14-17, 2025, focused on the theme “Seminarians, Pilgrims of Hope to All Peoples.” The national PMS Director, Fr. Peter Madeya, emphasized the workshop’s purpose of encouraging seminarians to embody a message of hope, particularly for those suffering from various adversities such as war, persecution, and poverty. The core aim was to prepare seminarians to become missionaries of hope in a fractured world. Various topics were presented during the workshop.

Fr. Luke Sulumba highlighted the role of seminarians as animators for the Holy Childhood and the importance of engaging with the messages of the PMS. Fr. Joseph Kimu discussed the universal call to mission, urging seminarians to view preaching the Gospel as a solemn duty rather than a choice. Fr. Lazaro Phiri emphasized the need for seminarians to celebrate their faith joyfully and to preach the Word of God in a nourishing manner.

Fr. Bernad Silungwe focused on the missionary spirituality required of diocesan priests, stressing the importance of collaboration with bishops and a commitment to holiness and outreach. Bro. Pascal Mtuwana introduced safeguarding principles, urging seminarians to protect children and vulnerable individuals from abuse. Fr. Cosmas Kinley discussed the significance of marriage and family as divine gifts, advocating for respect for life and parental responsibilities.

Fr. Henry Chinkanda reinforced the idea that seminarians and priests are called to be missionaries of hope, tasked with providing various forms of hope to both the Church and society. Lastly, Fr. David Niwagaba addressed the role of communication in contemporary evangelization, encouraging seminarians to utilize media responsibly in their mission.

The workshop concluded with a strong emphasis on the responsibilities of seminarians as future leaders in the Church, equipped to spread hope and engage with the challenges faced by communities worldwide.
